November 29, 2010 Program

The generation of electricity by wind power was the topic at the weekly meeting of the Morris Rotary Club. Owen Grant of NorthWind and Power LLC, an Albany-based generation firm, presented a program on Wind Generation in New York State.  He reviewed existing projects on the Tug Hill Plateau near Lowville and along Route 20 near Fenner Ridge, Munnsville, and Sangerfield.  Grant said that every project needs a consistent source of wind, community support, and access to transmission lines to move their power onto New York's electrical grid.  The State has set a goal of producing 30 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2015.

NorthWind and Power LLC focuses on Community Scale Generation Projects of 8-12 turbines near communities of about 2,000 people.  They are currently taking measurements at Otsego County locations in the towns of Maryland and Richfield as well as working with customers in Delaware County.
